Essar Steel Build Today Architectural Journalism Contest 2008- Expression of Young Minds

Introduction
India Today Group & Essar Steel is pleased to encourage students to develop their writing skills and research capabilities through journalism.

A monograph is proposed to be printed with articles written in English by students. The focus shall be on the quality of information and explanation that would make interesting reading for the public on any selected work of an architect. The evaluation is on the communication skills. An interactive session or a talk is proposed in May 2008 at Mumbai to present this monograph by the authors to the architect.

This journalistic work shall be evaluated by journalists from India Today Group and other eminent persons for awards. Participant can be individual or a team of a maximum of four persons. Contestant shall focus on the work of any architect and write about the architect's project relating to any one of the stated fields .

It is essential to maintain a rapport with the architect and conduct research, explore the philosophy and issue and its translation into a design solution. The article shall highlight the work of a specific architect and his/ her contribution to any one project in one of the four specified fields . The architect shall also be invited to participate in the talk and shall be honoured with the monograph.


These entries should relate to the contributions made by architects in the field of
  1. Conservation
  2. Urban Design
  3. Green Building
  4. Iconic or Signature Building
The article should involve research, meeting with the architect and understanding of the architectural concern and design solutions, photographs and expression of the special features that would be of interest to the general public. The contest is open to students pursuing B.Arch and M.Arch from institutes recognised by Council Of Architecture or as decided by the organiser.

Build Today monograph will be released in Mumbai in May 2008 at special functions to honour and recognize the student's talent in journalism . Students will be asked to present a paper and introduce the architect who will then be honoured by "Build Today" by presenting them the monograph.

Student participating in this initiative will be given special awards and certificates. Two running trophies shall be presented to participating institutes .


Rules & Regulations
A: 01 Eligibility
  1. The "author" can be an individual or a group of students.
    The maximum number of students in a group shall not exceed four (Hereafter referred to as "author")
  2. The author shall be a student on the rolls of any institute situated within Maharastra or Gujarat duly recognized by the Council of Architecture.
  3. The author shall have a guide to advice and encourage this journalist work. Such guide may edit the work. The guide may be any person from the institute's faculty.
  4. The article shall be in English language only and shall be restricted to 1500 words, presented on A4 size sheets along with the soft copy on CD in M.S. words.
    Maximum of three photographs and diagram shall be presented in colour or black & white with captions.
  5. Details as per enclosed format shall be submitted to the organizer as per Form A enclosed on or before 20th March 2008
  6. The organizer shall issue the UCN number to the participant author by 23rd March 2008.
  7. The teams shall submit the FORM A and later the FORM B to the orgniser before or at the stipulated dates as mentioned in the attached calendar. These forms contain additional instructions and regulations for the contest.
  8. Award for this contest are listed in the List of Awards. The organiser reserves the right to change the title of the award
